The foundation awards grants

In 2024, the K.H. Renlund Foundation distributed more than €1 million in grants to various research and communication projects related to geological resources. The main theme supported was ore exploration and the basic geological research that promotes it, as well as projects exploring new ways of using raw materials, recycling and environmentally friendly enrichment technologies.

We support the promotion of sustainable use of groundwater resources and various education and publication projects.

The Foundation awards annual prizes to the best MSc theses accepted at Finnish universities and we subsidize the costs of amateur mineral prospectors in cooperation with the GTK’s Layman sample office.

The grants are open for applications from 15 September to 30 November each year.

Legacy of K. H. Renlund

Karl Herman Renlund (1850-1908), the founder of the Foundation, successfully invested his accumulated wealth in various businesses. Renlund was very wealthy at the time of his death, but had no heirs. In his will, he left most of his fortune to his mother’s memorial foundation, Stiftelsen Brita Maria Renlunds minne, which provides a wide range of support for children’s day care and schools.
