2 § The purpose of the Foundation is to promote the location and exploitation of ores and usable mineral resources, technically exploitable rock and soil materials and groundwater deposits in Finland and, as far as possible, to produce new knowledge that may facilitate their exploitation and use, taking into account the relevant environmental aspects. This can be done by:

1. by announcing calls for grants and other financial support;

2. as a result of indications of useful mineral deposits in rock or soil;

4. where there are grounds for reassessing the significance of an old mine, ore deposit or similar site which has been abandoned for reasons which are no longer valid.

B. By supporting outreach activities aimed at increasing public awareness of the location, use and value of mineral deposits of technical value, rock and mineral resources and groundwater resources.

C.  By awarding scholarships to persons whose aim is to train for a profession which supports the objectives of these regulations.
